It is my pleasure and privilege to invite you to participate in the International Society for Gerontechnology's 7th World Conference to be held in Vancouver, Canada, May 27-30, 2010.
About the World conference
The World Conference is the principal multi-disciplinary meeting for professionals working in the field of gerontechnology. The Conference is held once every two to five years and this is the first time it has been held in Canada.
Who attends?
The conference brings together people who design, develop, prescribe, research, set policy for and use technology to enhance the health, functional capacity and quality of life of older adults. These include engineers, architects, ICT experts, computer scientists, gerontologists, health care providers, social service professionals, leisure and recreation specialists, planners, housing developers and managers, as well as people responsible for purchasing decisions in aging-related industries such as assisted living, care facilities and hospitals.

This theme recognizes the important role that technologies can play in meeting the challenges of individual and population aging. Experts from around the world will come to Vancouver to exchange ideas, forge links and devise strategies for collaboration and cooperation in the further development of this rapidly expanding area of research, practice and policy.

About the International Society for Gerontechnology (ISG)
The ISG was established in 1997. Registered as a non-profit organization in the Netherlands and governed by Dutch law, it has branches and members throughout the world. ISG's objectives are to promote the study of technology and aging so as to ensure an optimal environment for aging and aged persons. It organizes occasional conferences, offers Master Classes and publishes the quarterly journal Gerontechnology.
About the Host Organization
The 7th World Conference is hosted by the Simon Fraser University Gerontology Research Centre (GRC). The GRC was established in 1982 with a mandate to conduct and foster and facilitate research on individual and population aging. Its research is organized around five themes: aging and the built environment; health and aging; prevention of exploitation and victimization of the elderly; culture and aging; and technology and aging. The associated Department of Gerontology, established in 1983, offers PhD and Masters degrees, a post-baccalaureate diploma and an undergraduate minor.

Vancouver, Canada's jewel of the Pacific is situated on a magnificent natural harbor and flanked by magnificent mountains. With 2 million people in the surrounding area, Vancouver is a modern, safe, cosmopolitan city offering a wide variety of sightseeing, sporting, cultural and shopping opportunities. Downtown, where the conference will take place, is about 20 minutes by car from the International Airport.
